If you could know, without a shadow of a doubt, the answer to one (or more) question, what question would you want answered?1

The question that I would want answered is, "What is the meaning/purpose of life?" I think knowing the answer would definitely clear up many other questions that I have! :)

1Selected from The Conversation Piece 2.

Is there life in other parts of the universe? I'm not talking just water, but civilizations.

Why?

Oooh, this is such a good question to ask...

This is my single wish when we die, actually.. that we get the opportunity to find out the answers to whatever questions we want. (Having them be a mystery now is fine.. long as I get to find out sometime :) )

I have a pretty long list of these.. some reasonably trivial (seriously, .. was it OJ?), some medium sized (moon landing?), and others that are way bigger (jesus' conception.. and later on, some detail surrounding the days following his death. The Enquirer has completely fallen down on the job on this one.. where are the secret sex tapes? where is the hidden security camera footage from the cave? In all absolute honesty, there are a bunch things there that I'd like to know the answer to. I don't want to know that my answer is Right. I want to know the answer.)

I have another. I do not believe for one minute, ONE MINUTE, in the lone gunman theory. You know where I'm going with this. Who are all the people that assassinated President Kennedy? I believe Oswald was part of it in the book depository. Ever been there? creepy. They have his perch blocked off for visitors to see. I walked on the grassy knoll too.

Was it the mob, Cuba, Russians, some have a theory President Johnson was involved. Who else? Anyone, anyone, Bueller!

In answer to your question about the meaning of life.... I think we are here to find out what it means to be a human being.
There are lots of ways of pursuing this but the one that works best for me is to listen to my spiriutual teacher Prem Pal Rawat.

Some of the 'mysterious' plane crashes and such too (flight 800, 93, etc..) Shot down? Flown down? Just an accident?

The JFK one is a perfect example... there's theories abound around the circumstances of his murder.. but. ONE thing happened. Either one lone bullet ran all over the place, or there were multiple.

Being able to selectively watch historical events, fly-on-the-wall style, could occupy me forever.. heh.. I'd want to be up there in the building, and watch from his vantage point.. be in the crowd on the hill from theirs.. and just "be" where the truth really is.. that'd be nice. Even just to listen in.. 1776, England... "...they declare what?"

All kinds of stuff.. Pyramid building.. go back and watch the things be built and see for yourself.. stonehenge.. the easter island guys...

Back a smidge further to where we were dropped off on Earth by our alien-cousins long ago... or way further back to actually see/experience the asteroid that came in and wiped the dino's, etc..

I don't think I want to know the meaning of life. cause what if the answer is "to be a muffin"?

I'd have a hard time deciding what kind of muffin to be.

Hmmm, that seems like a great answer to the question -- I already have my muffin type picked out, cinnamon crumb!

Rob, you anwered my question with what seems to be one that is synonymous with it. What are some ways you suggest for pursuing the answer to the question, of "What does it mean to be human?"

Jen,

My muffin would be either anything with cinnamon (my favortie spice) or blueberry!

What does it mean to be a human being?
Well we all have to find that out for ourselves!!!!
There are no easy answers. The route ahead has perils and setbacks.
I cannot know which route is best for you. All I can say is that listening to my teacher, Prem Pal Rawat, works for me.

Hi Marilee, welcome! And thanks for posting a great question. I am sure that many of us often wonder about its answer.

The story of the Austrian girl is horrifying -- it is difficult to even imagine what she went through during those 8 years, as well as what she will go through on the road to recovery. That man stole her entire childhood away. It is hard to imagine what type of person is able to justify such terrible acts!
