I always thought that a couple of planes leaving the regular flight paths would only need a few minutes to turn and get over Manhattan and fly into the buildings, long before any flight controllers could scramble the Air Force..

and that Fighter Jets would not shoot down a commercial airliner over the city anyway unlike the Ruskies or Koreans...btw did you get a chance to read my 'theory' on why Putin is all of a sudden a bad guy in the MSM..

I am guessing that a return to the Cold War and fighting godless pasty white Ruskies is much 'safer' than taking on dusky Islamists.
